LEE CRUMPTON
Founder, Leeways Home Grown Music Network

Leeways Home Grown Music Network, the 8-year-old North Carolina company that is reinventing a new model for the promotion and distribution of music, is the result of the vision and passion of one man above all others, founder Lee Crumpton.

A 1992 graduate of East Carolina University, from which he earned a B.S, in communications, Crumpton worked for various commercial and public radio stations throughout the rest of the decade. Among his gigs were programming and hosting two popular shows, The Sunday Night Alternative and Blues By Night for five years on 100,000-watt WSFL.

It was through his work on these programs that Lee first came into contact with numerous independent and major-label recording artist and their organizations. This experience inspired him to begin conceptualizing a new music-business model, which ultimately led to the creation of HGMN. read more...

frequently asked questions
What is Leeway's Home Grown Music Network?

Leeway's Home Grown Music Network is a groundbreaking, 8-year-old organization dedicated to the advancement of independent music. The Network integrates bands, venues, retail outlets, catalog sales and the Internet. Much of the Network's funding is derived from catalog sales, which enable fans to directly fund the development of new music.

What services are provided for HGMN members?

Members are featured in the HGMN catalog and newsletters, and on the HGMN Web site (www.HomeGrownMusic.net), Home Grown Radio, Buzz A Band and compilation CDs. Members are provided access to our online database and e-mail lists, and furnished with regular updates regarding venues, radio shows, press and other important elements of the music industry. A collaboration with JamBase.com provides client tour information, and an alliance with LiveDiscs.com offers affordable live CD and DVD recording opportunities.

As a service to fans and stores, we also distribute a wide variety of CDs and merchandise from bands that are not official members.

How are bands chosen?

All submissions are evaluated by the HGMN staff. Each is rated in five categories: music; marketing and promotion; touring; online presence and organization/business. Applicants must receive passing grades in music from each member of HGMN before the other criteria are examined.

Are there other facets to HGMN?

In addition to handling music by HGMN members, it also offers, via the catalog, product from hundreds of other artists, from The Allman Brothers Band to Frank Zappa.

HGMN's latest project is the development of a radio promotions service. Its first clients are The Codetalkers with Col. Bruce Hampton, The Motet, Dexter Grove, Cast Iron Filter, Dr. Didg, King Johnson, Mecca Bodega, Cyril Lance, Yamagata and Barefoot Manner.
