ACCORDION RAP IS HIS MAIN SQUEEZE
The SQUEEZE RIGHT EP Release Party launches next chapter in heralded 'Squeeze Rock' chronicles of JULZ-A

"Fingers fanned out at chest level, terry-cloth band on his wrist, leaning back slightly, [Julz A] strikes a classic rapper's pose despite playing an instrument that has been relegated to Dorkville at least since the Beatles." New York Times

"If you think you've seen it all, you haven't at least not until you've attended this concert, which includes MC Julz A, who plays accordion while unfolding rhymes over pre-recorded beats." Boston Globe

NEW YORK (April 9, 2007) - Just back from a month-long U.S. tour marked by head-turning SXSW performances in the clubs and streets of Austin, Brooklyn's eclectic punker in a suit, JULZ-A, welcomes the hometown crowd to a record release party in his musical laboratory, the birthplace of his heralded new style known as Squeeze Rock.

The SQUEEZE RIGHT EP Release Party is being held Thursday, April 26, 2007 at Galapagos Art Space, 70 N. Sixth St. (@ Kent and Wythe) in Brooklyn, NY. Starring JULZ-A with special live bands of guests including members of the Electric Junkyard Gamelan. Also appearing are Kevin Johnston, Jann Klose, Witches in Bikinis, The Press and Zigmat. Show time is 7 p.m. Tickets are $8 and include a FREE copy of the new CD. For info, call (718) 782-5188.

Squeeze Rock makes the accordion cool again. So cool, in fact, that it's an "Accordion Alternative." Rock and Hip-Hop somewhere between Beck and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. JULZ-A (joolZAY) plays the accordion as if it's the guitar in a rock band. Difference is, he IS the band. So different, that the frequently heard word around Austin, TX last month was that Julz-A was "more interesting than any of the acts we saw at the showcases." And as this eclectic accordionist, vocalist, percussionist and composer continues to take his uniquely alt-rock/hip-hop in ever-intriguing new directions, who's to argue?

JULZ-A (a.k.a. classically trained multi-instrumentalist Julian Hintz) twice brought legendary Apollo Theater audiences to their feet on national TV alongside Whoopi, Chingy and Ray Chew -- first on Showtime at the Apollo and again last fall on Amateur Night at the Apollo. (See the clip of Whoopi introducing JULZ-A at www.myspace.com/squeezrock). Aside from SXSW, JULZ-A was "one of the must-see acts" (NOW Magazine) at NXNE and also has showcased at CMJ Music Marathon and Millennium Music Conference. He's been seen at the Rock Accordion Summits of New York, Philadelphia and Providence, and countless other festivals across the nation.

JULZ-A'S just-completed "Scandal and Squeeze Rock" U.S. tour with kindred spirit Andrew Scandal, New York's bizarrus maximus space cowboy, blazed through the Southeast to Texas and back through the Midwest, Toronto, and New England, and rocked every coffee shop, cabaret, cathedral, or country saloon in its path.

Along the way, the Wichita City Paper called SQUEEZE RIGHT EP (Lost Penny Music) "dark and desperate pop that has much more in common with Robert Johnson than Sir Jimmy Shand. 'Play Your Ax,' for instance cleverly balances levity with lethality; 'Where in the Words' plays with rhetorical conventions (the magic of the word "if") over a danceable goodtime beat."

"Where? (In the Words)," the closing track on SQUEEZE RIGHT EP, already has earned Honorable Mention in the 2006 We Are Listening Singer/Songwriter Awards, along with another JULZ-A original, "Sunset Time." And speaking of Honorable Mentions, that's what "I Tried" earned in the 2005 Billboard World Song Contest.

Sure, there's probably a handful of others who've figured out how to rock with the accordion. But JULZ-A is the ONLY rapping accordion rocker. And unlike the rest, he's making some noise that's serious. It'll drive you delirious.
